Political office to be set up in White House, Reuters reports

Image
Why is a political office allowed in the White House? The new office, created to fight Trump's many corruption charges, will be staffed by Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon, and Trump's former campaign manager:

"Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager, is also expected to be part of the effort. Lewandowski, who has been seen in the White House recently, could join the administration as early as next week, a source close to him said."

"Off with their heads!" he shouted. Well, not yet. But the next step in the Trump racket's disembodiment of the U.S. Justice system is to get rid of all U.S. attorneys who might threaten or investigate them. NPR story: u-s-attorney-preet-bharara-fired-after-refusing-to-resign

Russia Looks to Rebuild its Empire With U.S. Corrupt Leadership Help

Image
A summary from “The Trouble with Russia” by Massimo Calabresi and Simon Shuster in Time Magazine.

Russians planned a coup in Montenegro on its election day last October, which was foiled by the police. Why Montenegro? If the tiny country joins NATO, then that organization would control nearly every Mediterranean port north of the Bosporus. Russia desperately needs such a port in order to regain competitiveness in the current low-priced oil market.
Russia runs on oil, and with oil prices low, Russia’s economy has fallen to less than Italy’s. Looking west and north to rebuild its empire, there have been renewed attacks in Ukraine this year. Military threats are joined with propaganda and government destabilization in Serbia, Estonia, and other Eastern European counties. And they are fomenting unrest in Germany, France and Hungary. Britain and the U.S. too? Yes.
Closed door debates in the U.S. center on whether to trade Eastern Europe to Russia in return for help against ISIS and Chi…

Story of Russian Help in Electing Trump Buried?

Despite a mountain of evidence, people are largely ignoring the fact that Trump was elected with a great deal of covert help by Russia. Consider this:

The only item where the Trump campaign forced a change in the Republican platform—the only item—was in modifying a plank to weaken the party’s stance on opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. And Trump representatives said that concern came from Trump personally.http://www.dailykos.com/story/2017/2/9/1631858/-Donald-Trump-has-successfully-buried-the-story-that-worries-him-most

Flynn on the Take From Russia, Says WSJ, Mattis

Image
I reported before the inauguration on the blatant relationship between National Security Advisor Mike Flynn and Vladimir Putin. Now, the plot thickens.
In a letter sent Wednesday to Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, the lawmakers said that since Mr. Flynn retired from the Army in 2014, he has appeared regularly on Russia Today, or RT, a state-sponsored television network. The letter also notes that Mr. Flynn acknowledged he was paid to speak at a gala in Moscow celebrating RT’s 10th anniversary in December 2015. At the event, he dined alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The lawmakers said Mr. Flynn may have violated the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, which prohibits someone “holding any office of profit or trust”—meaning a public office or military position—from accepting gifts or payments from a foreign country.
“The Department of Defense has made clear that this restriction applies to retired military officers because they continue to hold offices of trust,” according t…

Intelligence Leaders Confirm Russia Hacked the Election

“Russia deployed more than just cyberattacks in its effort to disrupt the election, calling it a multifaceted campaign. ‘The hacking was only one part of it," he said. "It also entailed classical propaganda, disinformation, fake news,’ which [Clapper] said was still going on.” http://www.npr.org/2017/01/05/508355408/intelligence-chiefs-stand-more-resolutely-behind-finding-of-russia-election-hack
